The strategy of this deck is to be extremely aggressive with a low budget. With the new game pack the deck is now better at board control as well. With the Hunter’s Hero Power, you should be able to finish your enemy swiftly before they are able to control the board.
Unlike most deck, the priority is to damage the enemy hero and not killing minions. All you need is some of your minions and Steady Shot to put pressure in the early game. By applying pressure, you should be inching your opponent to the killing range. Using Eaglehorn Bow (Whenever a friendly Secret is revealed, gain +1 Durability) to slay minions with Taunt or deal damage to enemy hero. Always save the last durability of your weapon for the final assault. You can increase your durability by triggering a Secret Card.
Making the right decisions in early game is essential. Unlike most other decks, you should always prioritize going after your opponent rather than trading minions. Your minions and Steady Shot should apply enough pressure in the early stages of the match in order to get your opponent within kill range. Your Eaglehorn Bow should break through any early taunters and apply additional pressure on your opponent. Triggering one of your Secrets will help you replenish Durability on your weapon, and you should always save your last attack until you can either trigger a Secret, play new Eaglehorn Bow, or finish your opponent.
With the use of Explosive Trap (Secret: When your hero is attacked, deal 2 damage to all enemies) it can assist with gaining board controls as it can wipe the board clean. Along with Misdirection (Secret: When a character attacks you hero, instead he attacks another random character) which allows hunters to neutralize their enemy if they have many minions on the board, and if the enemy doesn’t have any minions, they can will damage themselves. The Freeze Trap (Secret: when an enemy minion attacks, return it to its owner’s hand and it costs 2 more) doesn’t provide great benefit to the hunter but it is used to increase the durability of the weapon and delay enemy attacks.
Flare is often kept in a low budget deck as a filler, however it is very useful when playing against decks with Secrets. Having it in the deck can provide some important advantages.
Once the opponent reaches the kill range, simply use cards like Kill Command (Deal 3 damage. If you have a Beast deal 5 damage instead), Wolfrider (3/1, Charge) or Arcane Golem (4/2, Charge, Battlecry: Give your opponent a Mana Crystal) to finish off the game.
Hunter Card Combos
One of the low budget hunter card combos involves playing Unleash the Hounds (2 Mana, Summon a 1/1 Hound with Charge until you have the same number of minions as your opponent) and Starving Buzzard (2/1, Whenever you summon a Beast, draw a card). With Timber Wolf in play, the hounds will be able to do more damage.
One of the weakness of this deck would be dealing with a taunt deck. Players with this Hunter Deck needs to be careful when a minion with taunt comes to play. So playing with Hunter’s Mark combined with Unleash the Hounds or Explosive Trap to destroy taunts and gain 1 durability at the same time.
As this is a fast pace deck, the first hand is extremely important. Never hold cards that you will not be able to use or not useful during early game. The more aggressive cards are favored such as low Mana cost minions, card-cycles like Track or Flare and even Eaglehorn Bow would be useful.
You will not need your Secret cards yet, so you should trade them in if possible. For zoo decks with plenty of minions, hold on to Explosive Trap to clear the board.
